By Institute of Medicine, National Research Council, Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Forestry, and Fishing Research Program Committee to Review the NIOSH Agriculture
The agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors are the cornerstone of industries that produce nutrition, fiber, and biofuel. The nationwide Institute for Occupational protection and future health (NIOSH) conducts learn with the intention to increase employee security and well-being in those sectors. This nationwide study Council publication experiences the NIOSH Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing application to judge: the relevance of its paintings to advancements in occupational protection and healthiness; and the impression of study in lowering office health problems and injuries. The review finds that this system has made significant contributions to enhancing employee defense and future health in those fields. to augment the relevance and impression of its paintings and fulfil its project, the NIOSH Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing software may still supply nationwide management, coordination of study, and actions to move findings, applied sciences, and knowledge into perform. this system also will take advantage of developing strategic objectives and enforcing a finished surveillance method with the intention to larger determine and song employee populations in danger.

Inside the immensity and depths of the Earths oceans, some of the planets species and assets thrive distant from the reaches of human civilization. With expanses that experience but to be found and massive reservoirs of untapped power, oceans offer fodder for all manners of study. This informative quantity describes the good points and homes of the our bodies of water that make up 70 percentage of the worlds floor in addition to a number of the branches of oceanography devoted to learning all facets of the sea and its existence varieties.
In lots of geological epochs, glacial sediments are frequent. this sort of sedimentation effects from the interplay among surroundings, cryosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere less than temperatures starting from zero to -80. different types of glacial sediments exists: these from sea-ice and people from icebergs. either varieties might be subdivided into numerous subfacies.

The committee met three times from January 2007 through May 2007 and conducted additional deliberations through conference calls and e-mail. Information gathering included presentations by NIOSH staff and other invited guests in open sessions of committee meetings in January and March (see Appendix B). The committee also invited comments from stakeholders, that is, organizations and individuals with a potential interest in the AFF Program. Given that the research program is related to an enormous and disparate portfolio of sectors—agriculture, forestry, and fishing—the population of potential stakeholders is diverse and not easily defined.
The logic model used by the AFF Program appears as Figure 1-1. To assess the relevance of the program’s research, the committee examined goals, inputs, activities, and outputs; to evaluate the impact of the program’s research, it focused principally on intermediate and end outcomes. External factors were taken into consideration in the evaluation. The committee separately envisioned what an ideal AFF research Copyright © National Academy of Sciences. It is vital that independent, scientifically based research continue to inform policy and regulatory discourse. Many in the AFF industries are well aware that safety and health are woven into the fabric of successful businesses. As illustrated by the tragic loss of life associated with the recent sinkings of fishing vessels off New Bedford, important gaps still allow extremely dangerous conditions to continue. NIOSH has a unique role as the only federal agency capable of convening all players dedicated to preventing workplace injury and disease, and it has deployed itself credibly on this task and funded other partners to function in consensusbuilding roles.
